Last month has been quite a ride for me, ever since I decided to bring the shelter to life.
Almost everyone I told tried to talk me out of it.
“You don’t know what you’re doing.”
“Hundreds of shelters struggle every month with utility and food bills.”
“You’re crazy—you’ll lose all your money.”
They’re probably right.
Even the accountant I worked with bowed out, so I had to find a new one.
Am I crazy? Am I naïve enough to believe people will rally behind this cause? Maybe, but I’m fine with that.
My goal is no longer to build just one shelter. I want to build many. And not only shelters. We want to turn Mayday into a global movement, using technology, community and shared values to spotlight issues that affect living beings. Whenever donations exceed our own needs, we’ll pass them on to other charities.
My dream is for “Mayday Animal Shelter” to grow into The Mayday Foundation.
We’ve already registered the domains for every branch of the journey - mayday.ngo, mayday.foundation, mayday‑animal‑shelter.org/.com, mayday‑mayday.org - and we’ll integrate the $MAYDAY token across them all.
Dream big, and take small steps.
The new website
The site is fully functional and will serve as the hub for everything digital we do. The pets you see there come from our “mini‑shelter” in the backyard, and they’re all up for adoption.
Although every section works - from backend to frontend, including Solana Pay for donations - the site is still in its first beta. If you spot bugs or odd behaviour, tell us. Positive feedback and ideas are just as welcome. 🙂
Paperwork and next milestones
Our next hurdle is finalising the paperwork for MAYDAY ANIMAL SHELTER, an NGO registered in Romania. Holidays slowed the process, but we expect approval in the coming weeks. Huge thanks to Ms Diana Gratianu, attorney at law, for steering us through the maze.
Curious to watch our progress? Visit the Ministry of Justice portal (https://www.just.ro/registrul-national-ong), download the “Asociatii” XLSX file and search for MAYDAY. If we’re listed, the license is official; if not, we’re still waiting.
Why does NGO status matter? It unlocks the next steps: opening a bank account and IBAN for donations, partnering with other nonprofits, joining fundraising programs—and, most importantly, breaking ground on the shelter itself. When we spoke with city‑hall officials about leasing land, their first question was “Do you have the paperwork?” Soon we will.
What’s next? Plenty. A lot. In the next article we’ll dive into the $MAYDAY token and how it can raise awareness, inside and outside the crypto space. We'll start posting on the social media channels we just created, we'll launch the online shop (for physical goods, drop-shipped, but not exclusively), we'll do interviews in the media, besides finding land and starting to fundraise to build the shelter itself.
